Part One: A Lack of Rigor
We truly suffer from a lack of rigor in this world. By rigor I don’t mean overly formal rules, but just, processes that are battle-tested and with strong methods undergirding them.
There’s so much information out there, and people need to be taught how to find quality information, and how to tell quickly if something is valid or not.
The primary thing I think I gained from my doctorate, aside from a Dr. I can slap on my email signatures, is that if I read an article about research or some sort of study, I can tell basically instantly whether it’s nonsense of not. Even if the findings are something I disagree with, that is still far better than unserious data that I agree with emotionally.
But not everyone is going to get a doctorate, or go to graduate school, or even college.
So the problem then becomes…
